The country is marking Indigenous Veterans Day on Nov. 8 — a day to recognize the service of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people. The government notes that Indigenous Peoples have served Canada in operations both domestically and abroad for more than 200 years. Currently, more than 2,700 Indigenous members serve in Canada’s military forces. November 8 is Indigenous Veterans Day, when Canada honours First Nation, Metis and Inuit soldiers and veterans, and their long, distinguished legacy of serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. Alberta Indigenous Relations minister Rick Wilson calls the long and proud history of bravery, sacrifice, and contributions made by Indigenous people invaluable to Canada.
